民間盛傳吃苦瓜可降血糖,真的有效嗎?營養專家表示,苦瓜中的苦瓜鹼等成分,在動物及細胞試驗有降血糖的效果,但人體還未有臨床研究;醫師則表示,目前尚無科學研究證實苦瓜可降血糖,但苦瓜低熱量及含有膳食纖維,符合糖尿病患飲食原則,確可做為降血糖輔助飲食。台北醫學大學附設醫院營養室主任蘇秀悅表示,苦瓜中含有苦瓜鹼、抗氧化劑及三◆類等成分,有助於人體的血糖控制及代謝,而苦瓜的種類繁多,表皮白色的白苦瓜大多用來烹煮,但若以具有改善代謝的植化素而言,以深綠色的山苦瓜較多,民眾想攝取這方面的營養,山苦瓜是不錯的選擇。

三總內分泌暨新陳代謝科主任洪乙仁表示,門診中常會聽到糖尿病患吃苦瓜降血糖,但有些人吃了有效,有些人吃了卻沒效,而除了吃苦瓜之外,糖尿病患間也常口語相傳喝檸檬水及吃香椿、秋葵等可降血糖的偏方,但效果也都因人而異。洪乙仁指出,吃苦瓜與血糖的關聯性,目前並無進一步的人體臨床試驗證實,但苦瓜熱量低,含纖維質,這些都符合糖尿病患的飲食原則,也可能患者吃了這些膳食纖維之後,因而有了飽足感,所以其他不必要的食物也就吃不下,於是達到糖尿病患最重要的飲食控制。不過,這些都只能做為飲食輔助,糖尿病患還是應遵從醫囑,依規定服藥,不能以為吃了苦瓜這些膳食纖維食物之後,就可以不服藥,本末倒置。蘇秀悅指出,雖然吃苦瓜可降血糖,目前仍侷限在細胞及動物實驗,但苦瓜含膳食纖維,是不錯的蔬菜,民眾平眾可多攝食,每日生食大約100公克的山苦瓜,即可達到養生效果,一般人不喜歡苦瓜的苦味,建議可以切成薄片,並與水果一起做成蔬菜水果沙拉,以水果甜味調和苦瓜的苦味,清爽又可口。,
